Your Wicklow Winter Escape

Your Wicklow Winter Escape

What do you like most about Winter? Many people like cosy nights at home, some are waiting for Christmas celebrations and others love nights in a bar in front of the fire on a Winter mini-break. We’re used to the weather not being ideal in Ireland so have become professionals at entertaining ourselves throughout the darker months. Here are our favourite things to do on your Winter escape in Tulfarris.

Wicklow Gaol

It may be an hour’s drive but visiting Wicklow Gaol (Gaelic for jail) is a fantastic day out for all of the family. Spend an afternoon in the spooky but educational former jail turned museum learning about its former residents and why they ended up in this scary place. The tour is lead by actor guides who give you an in-depth history of the jail and the conditions faced by its inhabitants. It’s especially good around Halloween as they do scary tours and ghost walks at night.

Wicklow Mountains National Park – Glendalough

If you’d rather explore the Garden of Ireland during daylight hours, there are many gorgeous places to discover in Wicklow Mountains National Park. Wrap up well and enjoy the 30-minutes scenic drive to Glendalough, one of Irelands oldest and best-preserved monastic sites. It is one of the top tourist attractions in Ireland and once you see the spectacular scenery, rich history, archaeology and abundant wildlife you’ll see why. Bring a packed lunch with a flask of something nice and warm and enjoy it on their family picnic area.

Russborough House

Russborough House was built between 1741- 1750 by Joseph Leeson. It is regarded as one of Ireland’s most beautiful houses. It’s a great place to visit if you want to enjoy stunning views of Blessington Lakes and the Wicklow mountains in the comfort of this luxury indoor paradise. Russborough houses also one of the most impressive private art collections in Ireland, available to view by private tour only.

Kildare Village

If you’d like to be a step ahead this Christmas, why not spend your winter escape in Wicklow shopping in one of Irelands most impressive outlets. In Kildare Village you’ll find bargains all sorts of designer and high-end items like clothing, bags, footwear, skincare and so much more. The celebrations start in early November with the lighting of the Christmas lights & tree and our fantastic Winter Escape package offers a further 10% off their already low prices.
