Did you know that Tulfarris has ranked in the Fab50 places to stay in Ireland this year? While it comes as no surprise to us, we are delighted some of Ireland’s best travel and lifestyle writers have chosen Tulfarris Hotel in County Wicklow as part of this prestigious list, promoting us in the Irish Independent Weekend Magazine.
Fab50 Place to stay
After the past two years of missing out, it feels right that some of Ireland’s most fabulous places to stay are seeing a surge in press promoting them to those who are making up for lost travel time. Pól Ó Conghaile, Nicola Brady, Thomas Breathnach and Kathy Donaghy have travelled the length and breadth of the country to compile this year’s hottest accommodation list. A lot of hard work goes into choosing the Fab50 each year, a job we wouldn’t mind for ourselves! Instead of relying on old favourites and tried and trusted hotels, writers go out of their way to refresh the list every year, looking out for renovations, innovation and upgrades. From wild hideaways to hip hotels, private island escapes to cool castles, we are delighted that Tulfarris featured in the Fab50.
What The Experts Say – written by Pól Ó Conghaile
‘Previously owned by an Earl of Kildare, and rugby legend Karl Mullen, this four-star resort has taken a big step forward thanks to a €7.4m investment by Ireland’s Prem Group. Some well-judged additions and TLC have taken it from Nama to a new era of golf, weddings, and leisure breaks — rooms in the 18th-century manor are restored in heritage style (it can be booked by groups), for example, with balcony rooms pick of the bunch in the hotel itself. There’s a new ballroom for events and weddings, a revamped bar and terrace serving up al fresco pizza, and an Airstream trailer in summer. Fia Rua restaurant is the standout space, a bistro-style room gorgeously designed by Julie Goggin to take advantage of views over the 18th green, with curving brown leather banquettes centring around a large olive tree. Its name isn’t as widely known as other resorts, but this reboot, and the developing Blessington Greenway, will surely start turning heads.’
Aside from our beautiful hotel, Wicklow has a lot to offer. Enjoy a visit to palatial manor house Russborough House, one of Ireland’s most beautiful homes, and admire the impressive architecture and gardens. Enjoy a walk in the fresh air, taking in magnificent views of the Blessington Lakes and the Wicklow mountains. Enjoy a ramble around the local shops in Blessington or venture to the nearby Kildare Village for some serious retail therapy. if you’re looking to explore your more adventurous side, you can go kayaking, abseiling, or ziplining or for a break, head to the cinema after a long day of exploring. We are surrounded by beautiful walking and hiking routes, Clara Lara Fun Park and the Hollywood Horse and Pony Trekking Centre are a short distance away and the Fun Factory and Odeon Cinemas are also easily accessible. After a day of exploring, spend a night beside majestic mountains, watching the peaceful rhythm of the beautiful lakes.
Golf in Tulfarris
One thing Pól missed on his trip to Tulfarris was the opportunity to play the most beautiful round of gold he could hope for. Set across three peninsulas and designed by renowned golf course architect Patrick J Merrigan, our stunning 18-hole Tulfarris Golf Course is a paradise for lovers of the game. It’s a challenging but enjoyable round and having been home to the PGA EuroPro tour 2018, 2019 & 2020 even the pros agree. Our champion course is perfectly manicured to the highest standard and loved by locals and visitors alike. We’ve recently added a contemporary clubhouse for guests to enjoy before and after a round.
We are delighted to have been featured on the list with many other top-class properties around Ireland and hope to continue to feature on a lot more. To experience the beauty of Tulfarris Hotel and Blessington for yourself, book our best available rates exclusively on our official website.
