One Day in Blessington, Wicklow

One Day in Blessington, Wicklow

Blessington is one of the biggest towns in West Wicklow. As well as the beautiful Blessington Lakes and Wicklow mountains, Blessington is steeped in history. Buildings, statues and relics of the past all add to the character of our wonderful town. We have put together a list of what our ideal day here looks like;

Breakfast:

Start your day off right with an indulgent breakfast in our Limetree Restaurant. Choose from a selection of freshly baked pastries and bread. Order a full Irish breakfast from our menu or help yourself to our plentiful contentental breakfast. You won’t find a better breakfast out there.

Being a tourist:

Take in some of Blessington’s beautiful natural scenery and wildlife by walking the Blessington Greenway. It begins at Avon Ri Activity Centre and will take 1.5 hours to complete, ending at Russborough House. We recommend you drive to Russborough House and take the bus to the other end of the track so your car is waiting for you when you arrive. The walk is suitable for everyone with reasonable fitness and has no rough terrain.

We would recommend visiting Russborough House while you are in this part of the world. The house tour is not running until March 2018 but the outdoor activities and stunning grounds make it well worth the visit. The beautiful walled gardens date back to the 1750’s. Lady’s Island is a beautiful part of the estate surrounded by a moat and with a red Japanese bridge required to cross it.

Lunch:

You will want a good feed after your busy morning. We suggest visiting Blessington Bookstore to try out their homemade food, especially their delicious homemade scones which claim to ‘feed body and soul’. While you’re there you could check out the selection of books made available by this lovely independent bookstore.

Shopping:

If you would like to stay local there are no big shopping centres in the town but we do have a lovely little antique store called Tramway Treasures that sells everything from antique jewellery to furniture. If you want to go further afield you can visit Avoca. They sell beautiful handmade throws rugs and scarves and offer a Mill Tour so you can see first hand where they come from. Their food market is filled with local and imported artisan food ready to eat in or take home for later.

Dinner & Drinks:

Make your way back to Tulfarris and enjoy dinner in our restaurant, The Lime Tree. Where possible all of our food, from meats to dairy, are all locally sourced and as fresh as we can deliver them to you. Retire to the Elk Bar for a digestif or keep your evening. You are sure to be impressed by our extensive wine list. We also host live music in the bar on certain dates. Check the website to see what we have to offer.

Choose Tulfarris Hotel & Golf Resort for your business trip or leisure break and allow us to wow you with our stylish bedrooms, picturesque surroundings and friendly staff. Call us on tel: +353 45 867 600 to make a booking.
