Midterm Fun For Everyone

Midterm Fun For Everyone

With mid-term fast approaching, it’s time to start planning a few days off to enjoy the turn of the season. Before we prepare for the cold winter months and start stocking up for Christmas, you still have time to enjoy our favourite season, Autumn. Watching the leaves change and wearing your favourite warm jumpers are just some of the perks of Autumn, you can also enjoy a visit to our hotel or self-catering houses in Wicklow, perfectly situated in the heart of Blessington & surrounded by mid-term activities. Here are ten of our favourite things to do, with or without children close to our Wicklow hotel.

Enjoy a Walk

The possibilities are endless for walks and hikes in Wicklow. Enjoy a gentle stroll around the Blessington Lakes and enjoy some beautiful views. Head to the other side of Wicklow to Bray Head & enjoy a day by the sea and a moderately difficult hike up Bray Head. The Wicklow Mountains National Park is packed with walks, trails and hikes too, with something to suit all ages and abilities. Remember to pack for all weathers on your autumn hike, our weather is unpredictable.

Visit the Big Blue Bus

What was once a landmark on the Dublin foodie scene has relocated to the more scenic and beautiful Blessington Lakes. Visit the food court in The Avon and enjoy a range of cuisines served from food trucks big and small. The Big Blue Bus is known for its pizzas, served literally from a large blue bus that doubles as a mobile restaurant. Every week there is a free meal if you have one of the lucky names selected. You’ll also find sweet churros, fried chicken, fish, coffee and more if pizza doesn’t float your boat.

The Avon Activity Centre

Close to the food court, you’ll also find the Avon Activity Centre, with plenty to entertain even the most adventurous souls. Enjoy SUP (stand-up paddleboarding), Kayaking, biking, hiking, archery, sailing and so much more. Ideal to tire out little legs before bed!

Dinner in Tulfarris

Nothing says vacation like eating delicious food in beautiful surroundings. This mid-term, book a table in Fia Rua restaurant in Tulfarris Hotel Wicklow and enjoy the finest local produce expertly prepared for you. If you prefer casual dining, our newly renovated Elk Bar has a fantastic bar menu with plenty of choice for adults and children. Enjoy fantastic food while enjoying a view over our magnificent golf course.

Visit the Cinema

It’s no secret that autumn in Ireland is damp – that’s what keeps our golf course so lush and green all year round! If you find yourself in Wicklow on a rainy day, buy tickets for the cinema as a welcome distraction. Travel to lands far away for adventures untold from the comfort of a seat in Odeon Cinema in Naas, a state-of-the-art multi-screen cinema a 25-minute drive from our hotel.

Visit Glendalough

Something that should be on every Wicklow bucket list is a visit to the magnificent Glendalough. Start at the visitors centre and enjoy a leisurely stroll through the woodlands, to the lakes which have been there since time began. Enjoy a number of trails, many of which are suitable for pets and children, and admire the fascinating monastic ruins contained within the area. Stop for a coffee and a snack in the food truck along the way to refuel.

Enjoy Some Retail Therapy

Wicklow and nearby Kildare have lots of shopping options. Head into Blessington town and enjoy a range of small, independent shops sharing the space with big-name supermarkets. If you’re on a mission for a bargain, drive less than 30-minutes to Ireland’s largest outlet, Kildare Village, where you will find an array of discounted designer goods to suit all tastes.

National Bird of Prey Centre

For an autumn day out you’re sure to remember, take yourself and your family to the National Bird of Prey Centre in Russborough, a ten-minute drive from our Wicklow hotel. Admire their collection of birds such as Eagles, Hawks, Falcons and Owls and educate yourself on the care and habitats of these magnificent animals. It’s a great day out for the whole family.
