Tulfarris are delighted to unveil our newly refurbished Elk Bar, open to both the public, golfers and our valued guests. A lot of thought and effort has gone into this refurbishment as we wanted to make the bar as inviting as possible while still retaining the beauty and comfort we had before. Here are some of the main changes you can expect on your next visit to the Elk Bar:

Elk Bar:

While the name has not changed, we wanted to explain where it came from and its significance to Tulfarris and the gorgeous Blessington Lakes that surround us. The Ancient Irish Elk (giant Irish deer) is said to have roamed central and east coast of Ireland and was one of the largest species of deer that ever lived. It is said to have weighed up to an astounding 1000lbs (71 stone) and had an antler width of four metres. Unfortunately, this majestic animal fell victim to the Ice Age and became extinct from Ireland around 10,500 years ago.

At Tulfarris we like to honour the past as often as possible as it’s part of the history of the house and our surroundings. The beautiful Elk are said to have roamed the Wicklow and Blessington areas and we felt it fitting to name our bar after these beautiful mythical creatures.

Refurbishment:

We have given the bar a complete revamp, completely redecorating and restructuring the entire area to make it more comfortable and stylish for our guests. We have removed the wall facing the golf course, replacing it with windows to improve the view across the golf course and allowing much more natural light to enter. You can now sit at the bar or in our comfortable new plush chairs and watch the local deer and stag amble across the 18th fairway. It really is nature at its finest.

We have kept the fireplace but moved it to a more prominent position at the centre of the room, so you can still enjoy a cozy drink by the fire after a long day of exploring Wicklow or a hearty meal in The Lime Tree Restaurant

Colour Scheme:

We have stepped away from the muted, darker colour scheme we have had in the Elk bar in the past and decided on a more tropical, colourful décor. Step into our little jungle and enjoy the deep bold colours and tropical greenery accented by red Bromeliads Gazmania. All of the plants in the bar are real and are maintained with expert care and attention by our staff. We have opted for deep plush velvet upholstery on our bucket type seating flanked on either side by red velvet and peach leather banquette seating.
