Best Day Trips Around Wicklow

Best Day Trips Around Wicklow

We are spoiled for choice with things to do in Wicklow. Accessible from all over Ireland and close to a lot of major attractions. When you stay in Tulfarris Hotel in Wicklow, you are in an ideal location for day trips to any of the below.

Glendalough/Wicklow Mountains (28kms – 34 min drive)

Covering 20,483 hectares, Wicklow Mountains National Park is the largest of Ireland’s six National Parks and the one closest to Dublin. The stunning scenery is well worth the scenic 30-minute drive. In the midst of the wilderness stands one of Ireland’s oldest Monastic settlements, established around 600AD. Glendalough is a beautiful example of a glaciated, U-Shaped valley and takes its name from the old Gaelic meaning ‘The Glen of the Two Lakes’. You will find true peace and tranquillity in this little paradise.

Dun Laoghaire (45kms- 60 min drive)

This charming seaside town is full of the best seafood restaurants in Dublin and the vantage point from the end of the pier gives you unparalleled views of Dublin Bay. Even said to be the inspiration for James Joyce’s Ulysses. Though it’s small in size, it’s absolutely steeped in history and literary inspiration, and well worth a visit. Visit Scrumdiddlys Ice Cream Parlour on Crofton Road for the most sumptuous desserts you’ve ever seen.

Kildare Village (29kms – 34mins drive)

Kildare Village is an absolute paradise for fashion lovers and those who love a bargain. Home to over 100 luxury fashion and homeware stores, you can enjoy outlet shopping with up to 60% off high street prices. With everything from Versace to Nike and everything in between, there is something to suit everyone with any budget. They also have special offers, fashion events and some top class eateries to choose from.

Greystones (55kms – 60mins drive)

What started out as a small fishing village just south of Bray Head, Greystones has grown significantly but kept that friendly and welcoming village feel. Easily accessible from Dublin, Wicklow and beyond, Greystones is an ideal place for a day trip. You will find everything from unique specialist shops to a wide variety of culinary options. The beach in Greystones is a blue flag beach and is about half a mile long. While you are there, you can try the Bray to Greystones cliff walk and enjoy the stunning coastal scenery along the way. It takes about 2.5 hours and you can get a commuter train back to Greystones when you finish if you don’t fancy the walk back.
